The eATA Carnet is the electronic version of the traditional paper ATA Carnet, enabling the temporary export and import of goods free of customs duties and taxes. The electronic eATA Carnet was introduced in Finland (within the EU), the United Kingdom, Switzerland, and Norway on 1 June 2026.
The digital carnet makes using a carnet faster and more secure than before, as all information is exchanged electronically between chambers of commerce, customs authorities, and users.
With the eATA Carnet, the export process becomes fully digitalised: the application is completed electronically, approvals and customs endorsements are recorded digitally, and information is visible to all parties in real time. This reduces errors and paperwork while making it easier to track goods throughout their journey.
The system is based on a standard developed by the International Chamber of Commerce’s (ICC) World Chambers Federation, and its rollout is proceeding in stages across different countries. The goal is that, in the future, all ATA Carnets can be issued and processed entirely electronically, without paper documents.
